PBA Playoff Preview

Eight tough playoff teams battle it out for the Philippine Cup

The PBA Philippine Cup Playoffs has kicked in and the match-ups are thrilling. This season has seen some of the PBA’s most amazing team comebacks and upsets. Here’s PlayPH’s quick guide to the action:

The Alaska Aces have lost the first in their twice-to beat advantage against the the Gin Kings. However, Ginebra can’t discount the odds of Calvin Abueva tilting the series to claim the elusive trophy.

And then there’s an interesting Star-Phoenix match up with equally good stars on both teams. Phoenix’s JC Intal has been averaging 17 points and is in perfect shape to push the pace. But a young and quick Hotshots team is on pursuit to climb up the ladder.

Just recently, the San Miguel Beermen established their dominance over the Elasto Painters and are currently waiting at the semi-final stage. Meanwhile, Terrence Romeo and the Batang Pier squad hope to keep their championship dreams alive against the Talk N’ Text KaTropa. Are we ready for a Global Port takeover?

But now, all eyes are on the the Beermen. With a 10-1 record this season, the Beermen have no plans of slowing down. In the event of a third straight title, then San Miguel sits with two other teams to complete a rare three-peat.

They’re most probable obstacle? Another finals appearance against Alaska.

The league’s second-seeded team looks more focused than they’ve ever been, and Calvin is at the center of it all. He’s one guy fans can trust during the late-game because of his tenacity on the floor. Vic Manuel and JV Casio seem to be the perfect sidekicks for a red-hot Abueva.

For the rest of the playoff teams, there’s no way but up. The PBA has an infamous reputation for surprising the country with upsets and new-born rivalries. In what appears to be an unpredictable post-season for everyone, all we can do is to be on our toes.
