Through Their Eyes

Through the Jr. NBA, these young athletes made their first steps into a larger world

As a team, the 2016 Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars travelled to Shanghai, China for the ultimate NBA Experience.

It’s one thing to hear all your life about how Filipinos are basketball crazy, and quite another to put that notion to the ultimate test in another country, but that’s just what Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars did last month when they travelled to Shanghai, China. The trip was their culminating NBA Experience, the result of months of hard work that set 10 boys and five girls apart from over 20,000 aspirants.

Sightseeing, training, and bonding as a team with All-Stars of five other countries, the Philippine contingent made the most of their Shanghai trip.

And so it went that Harold Alarcon, Isaiah Miguel Blanco, Tracy Carl Dadang, Ric Ozner Gatuz, Julian Alfonso Jugo, Andrei Philip Lechoncito, Jearic Nuñez, Miguel Roy Luis Tan, Fritz Felix Valencia, and 2016 MVP Kai Sotto, were accompanied by Coach of the Year Cholo Elegino to form the Philippines’ Jr. NBA contingent, while the Jr. WNBA was represented by their Coach of the Year and National Team player Ewon Arayi, along with 5 All-Stars: Rozie Amatong, Aloha Marie Betanio, Ma. Cecilia Quilenderino, Darlene Regasajo, and 2016 Jr. WNBA MVP Florence Jill Talas.

Through work and play, this episode of Passion at Play joins the Philippine All-Stars while they discover, as a team, just how far their love of basketball has taken them, and how much further they can go if they follow their passions.

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA presented by Alaska will celebrate their 10th anniversary edition in January 2017 with tip-off and Regional Selection Camps. Visit www.jrnba.asia/philippines/ and check back with PlayPH for more information.
