Every year, the polo field at the Ayala Alabang Country Club is transformed into a championship pitch of a different sort, welcoming scores of football players, families, enthusiasts, and friends Now in its 21st year, roughly a third of those teams (116, to be exact) came from the provinces, joining 213 NCR-based teams for two days of spirited competition.
From the happy faces on and off the pitch, the event reflected Alaska Milk Corporation’s dedication to promoting sport and active lifestyle in the country. And it wasn’t just boys getting in on the action, with 76 ladies’/girls teams turning out alongside 253 boys/men’s teams, for a total turnout of 4606 players from November 26-27.
The sidelines proved to be just as lively as the action on the individual playing fields, as parents, friends, and family members cheered their kids on. From as young as 6 years old, the players gave their all, playing with gusto and braving the first days’ rains to show their football skills.
Giving young footballers a venue for active competition since 1995, the Alaska Football Cup is the longest running grassroots football program in the country.
